S’algar is a purpose built tourist resort and as such boasts many amenities. It sits on the south east coast just a 15 minute drive from the airport and has the most beautiful views, nothing is more relaxing than watching the boats sailing in and out of the port at Mahon round the tip of the island.
The Hotel Alua Illa de Menorca has excellent sports facilities and even a little free train that drives around the resort. They have tennis, basketball, bowls, table tennis and a small playpark and cafe. There is also a main playpark in front of this hotel. S’algar also boasts the famous S’algar diving centre and they do practice sessions in the Hotel Alua Soul pool at the seafront. At the hotel Alua Soul right on the seafront beside the sunbathing platforms you can rent sun loungers and use the facilities of the Kentia Sea Club and the beach bar with live music from June to Sept from 9.45pm.
At the front there are two restaurants La Reina and El Pirata, a few artisan shops and we used to have a bakery but that has sadly gone with covid, we can only hope someone else will take over. You can however get fresh bread and pastries from the lovely Todo, the owner of the supermarket opposite La Reina. This supermarket is great for a smaller shop as he has everything you could need at reasonable prices. There is also another small supermarket under the Hotel Alua Illa de Menorca. If you want a big shop the supermarkets on the industrial site as you drive to the villa from the airport are best. La Reina is our favoured restaurant and David and family always treat us well, they often have entertainment at night in the summer months.
You can also use the facilities at the Los Naranjos apartments as long as you are buying food and drink and outside here you will find the yellow postbox if you want to send a postcard. All the hotels have bike hire as well.
The AluaSun Mediterraneo is at the top of the hill and here are the most stunning views over the cliffs climb over the style on the wall here and join the Cami Cavalls then head downhill you will hit Cala Rafalet a tiny inlet with a great spot for a dip and rocks and pools to explore.
S’algar does not have a sandy beach but does have excellent snorkelling and pool steps into the sea with platforms for sunbathing. A short walk along the coast is Cala Alcaufar a shallow inlet lined with fishing boats great for snorkelling, catching crabs and swimming. There is a hotel here a small shop and the Piccolo Mundo restaurant with their resident tortoises you can sometime feed. A larger beach at Punta Prima is a 10 minute drive away with a few restaurants and shops a small playground and basketball court.
